Don’t Put Off Fixing These Three Problems With Your Car

Some problems with your automobile are not as serious as others. If you have a bad windshield wiper, it will be squeaky, but if you don't fix it right away, it's not going to cause serious issues. And if you're headliner is sagging a bit, it's not going to cost more if you put off reupholstering it for a while. That's not the case with all automobile repairs. Some issues can end up causing serious problems for the car and incurring big repair bills if you leave them to get worse. Here are three areas that you really need to handle before they get worse.

Suspension Problem

The problem with a bad suspension is that it can ruin the frame of the car. If your car suddenly feels like it has a bit more "bounce," then run to the mechanic. It's not something to be trifled with. This is a sign that the struts or shocks are damaged. This is not a problem as long as you get it dealt with quickly. However, if you continue to drive around, you are putting an enormous amount of stress on your car's frame. The bouncing up and down can actually warp the steel frame. If it gets to this point, the car is going to have to be scrapped. There is no excuse for driving around on a car that bounces up and down. All you are doing is causing irreparable damage.

Constant Velocity Joint Issues

The constant velocity joint is integral in connecting your tire to the axle. The joint is covered by rubber "boots." These rubber "boots" protect the joint from dirt, mud, and other debris. When the boots crack or split due to age, the grease inside the boot will also leak out. This can create too much heat and, when you couple this with the dirt and grit, the axle can fail. If this happens, the tire can break off while you are driving. This is not only costly, as it will damage the trans-axle (not just the tire axle) but it can potentially be fatal if you are driving at a high speed.

Transmission Problems

One of the more serious problems that you might encounter is a transmission that is slipping. The cause of this initial problem might be something not too serious. Perhaps the transmission fluid is too low. Or maybe the fluid is dirty and needs to be changed. More serious causes might be a leak. However, the longer you let the problem remain, the more serious the damage might be. It can lead to worn gaskets and stripped gears. If it gets to this point, the transmission will need to be removed and taken apart by a skilled transmission mechanic. This is not a simple job and will require time and hard labor, so it will be expensive. So before it gets to this point, head to the shop and have it looked at.
